Official route for the Itzulia Basque Challenge 2026 unveiled

The organization of the Itzulia Basque Challenge has officially presented the route for its 2026 edition, which comes with major changes compared to recent years. This time, the sportive will start and finish in Bergara, the heart of a day that promises excitement, effort, and stunning landscapes.

Participants will be able to choose between two route options to suit different levels:

  • 🏁 World Tour Route: 133.8 km with +3,000 m elevation gain
  • 🚵‍♂️ Medio Fondo Route: 70.2 km with +1,650 m elevation gain

The new course includes some of the most emblematic climbs in Gipuzkoa, offering a true taste of Basque cycling.

  • Gorla (Category 2)
  • Azkarate (Category 3)
  • Gorla (Category 2)
  • Azkarate (Category 3)
  • Asentzio (Category 2)

🔹 Mountain climbs – Medio Fondo Route:

  • Asentzio (Category 3)
  • Gorla (Category 2)
  • Azkarate (Category 3)

Both routes combine challenge and beauty, with consecutive climbs, technical descents, and breathtaking views that capture the spirit of cycling in the Basque Country.

With this new course, the Itzulia Basque Challenge strengthens its sporting identity and its connection to the professional Itzulia Basque Country, offering amateur cyclists the chance to face the same demanding terrain as the pros.
